Paradip Port cargo handling up 20% in April-February

March 21: Cargo handling by Paradip Port Trust increased 20.28% during the first 11 months of the current financial year (2013-14) to 61.84 million tons (mt) from 51.41 mt reported in the same period of 2012-13, a senior official from the port told ICMW.
Of the total cargo handled during the period, the port handled a total of 29.08 mt of coal during the period under review compared to 23.64 mt in April-February, 2012-13, registering a growth of 23.01%.
With this, the total coal handling by the port was 47.02% of the total cargo handling.
In the first 11 months of the current financial year, thermal coal handling by the port increased by almost 19% to 22.76 mt compared to 19.12 mt handled in the same period of 2012-13 while coking coal handling by the port increased 39.82% during April-February, 2013-14 to 6.32 mt compared to 4.52 mt in the same period of 2012-13.
