Steam coal imports through the port of Paradip went down a marginal 5.04% month-on-month to 427,457 tons in December 2015 against a volume of 406,916 tons in November 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Steam coal imports in December 2015 had stood higher at 750,621 tons.
With the December figures, total steam coal imports in the first nine months of the current fiscal of 2015-16 have dropped 27.32% year-on-year to 4,911,806 tons against a volume of 6,758,148 tons recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal (2014-15). Total steam coal imports in the previous fiscal amounted to 9,118,213 tons.

December 2015 imports comprised 263,105 tons from Indonesia in a band of Rs 2,257 – Rs 4,691 ($34-70) per ton, 163,013 tons from South Africa at a price band of Rs 3,428 – 4,694 ($51-70) per ton and the balance 1,429 tons from the US at a unit price of Rs 7,036 ($105).
In November 2015, imports comprised 152,848 tons from Indonesia in a band of Rs 2,295 – Rs 5,049 ($35-77) per ton, and the balance 254,067 tons from South Africa at a price band of Rs 3,699 – 4,988 ($55-76) per ton.
