As with steam coal, import volumes of coking coal through the port of Paradip too moved down a moderate 38.23% to 538,521 tons in March 2016 against 871,845 tons in February 2016, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
With the addition of the March 2016 figures, total coking coal imports in fiscal 2015-16 dropped 20.48% year-on-year to 7,233,841 tons against 9,097,177 tons recorded in the previous fiscal (2014-15).
Imports of coking coal in March 2015 stood at a higher 785,837 tons.

In March 2016, all the import consignments came in from Australia in a range of Rs 5,558 – Rs 9,541 ($67-141) per ton.
In February 2016, however, imports comprised a volume of 741,803 tons from Australia in a range of Rs 5,126 – Rs 7,750 ($74-113) per ton, 46,950 tons from New Zealand at Rs 5,610 ($82) per ton, 22,858 tons from Canada at Rs 5,501 ($80) per ton, 12,151 tons from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 5,258 ($77) and the balance 48,083 tons from the US at a price band of Rs 6,411 – 6,458 ($94) per ton.
