Paradip Port’s Oct cargo handling up 28% y-o-y

November 7: Cargo handling by the port of Paradip during October 2014 increased 28.14% to 5.12 million tons (mt) against a volume of 4.62 mt recorded in the same month last year (October 2013), a senior official from the port told ICMW.
On a month-on-month basis, however, the port’s cargo handling dropped from 6.01 mt recorded in the month of September.
Coal continued to be one of the major cargos handled at the port in October.
On a cumulative basis, the port’s total cargo handling for April-October of the current fiscal stood at 41.40 mt up 6.87% from 38.74 mt in the same period of last year.
Of the total cargo at the port, coal handling during October stood at 2.66 mt up from 2.30 in October 2013 and 3.20 mt from September 2014.
Steam coal handling at the port during the month stood at 2.29 mt, up from 1.82 mt in October 2013, but down from 2.55 mt handled in September 2014. Coking coal handling at the port fell to 0.37 mt during the month against 0.48 mt in October 2013 and 0.65 mt in September 2014.
On a cumulative basis, the port’s coal handling during April-October, 2014-15 increased nearly 13% to 20.50 mt against a volume of 18.22 mt in the same period of 2013-14, the official said.
