Paradip Port thermal coal handling up 11% in FY16

Paradip Port mechanically handled a record 23.76 million tons (mt) of thermal coal during the year 2015-16, up 11.39% compared to the previous record of 21.33 mt during 2014-15, port sources told ICMW.
According to the source, this eastern coast port achieved an all-time cargo record of 76.38 mt during financial year 2015-16 as against the previous year’s traffic of 71.01 mt, registering a growth of 7.56%.
Incidentally, by virtue of this performance, Paradip Port retains its second position in cargo among all major ports consecutively for the last 3 years.
Record cargo was handled in March not only month-wise but also day-wise. A record 7.61 mt cargo was handled during March 2016, surpassing the previous record of 7.09 mt handled February 2016. Also, a record 4.20 lakh tons of cargo was handled in a day during March 2016 surpassing the previous record of 4.02 lakh tons.
Apart from coal, Paradip Port excelled in handling iron ore pellet and POL as well. A volume of 2.33 mt of iron ore pellets was handled during 2015-16, surpassing the previous record of 1.60 mt during the year 2013-14.
Moreover, 20.56 mt of POL was handled during 2015-16, surpassing the previous record of 17.97 mt in 2014-15.
