November 13: Imports of coking coal through the port of Paradip spurted by 89.11% to 828,751 tons in October 2015 against a volume of 438,242 tons reported in September 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Imports of coking coal in October 2014 stood lower at 428,268 tons.
With the addition of the October figures, total coking coal imports in the first seven months of the current fiscal of 2015-16 were at 4,317,858 tons against 5,717,206 tons recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal (2014-15).
Total imports of coking coal via the port in the previous financial year of 2014-15 amounted to 9,097,177 tons.

In October 2015, imports comprised a volume of 777,616 tons from Australia in a range of Rs 5,366 – Rs 6,762 ($93-114) per ton, 17,000 tons from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 5,757 ($87) per ton and the balance 34,135 tons from New Zealand in a price band of Rs 6,696 – 6,615 ($101).
September 2015 imports comprised a volume of 285,463 tons from Australia in a range of Rs 4,895 – Rs 8,337 ($74-127) per ton, 20,000 tons from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 5,860 ($88) per ton, a volume of 86,359 tons from Canada in a range of Rs 6,564 – Rs 6,887 ($98-103) per ton and the balance 46,420 tons from New Zealand at a unit price of Rs 6,305 ($96).
