Paradip’s gypsum imports catapult 150% in Dec m-o-m

Gypsum imports through the port of Paradip were at 107,700 tons in December 2015 against a far lower 43,117 tons in November 2015, showing a month-on-month jump of 149.78%, as per provisional data available with ICMW.

Overall, gypsum imports have shown a somewhat erratic trend this fiscal with no imports in August-September, 2015 while in July, these were at 56,400 tons. Volumes have swung in a wide range too over the last nine months.

Import volumes of the material in December 2014 were at 71,671 tons.

Total volumes of the material in the first nine months of the current fiscal of 2015-16 were at 436,542 tons against 701,977 tons recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal (2014-15), declining 37.81% year-on-year.

Total imports of gypsum in fiscal 2014-15 were at 970,622 tons.

In December 2015, 52,700 tons arrived from Oman in a price band of Rs 1,173-1,216 ($17-18) per ton and 55,000 tons from Iran at Rs 1,072/ton ($16).

In November, a single consignment arrived from Oman at a unit price of Rs 1,214 ($18).
