Pet coke despatches by rake fall marginally in December

January 21: The loading of petroleum coke (fuel grade) by rakes by major Indian refineries in December 2013 fell by 7.41% to 100 rakes from 108 rakes in November, according to information available with ICMW.

A decline was attributed to less loading from Reliance Industries Ltd's SEZ point and IOCL's Koyali refinery even as loadings from other refineries like Essar, HPCL and BORL remained unchanged.

Following is the detailed monthly loading of pet coke from various Indian refineries between April and December 2013 (in number of rakes):

One rake usually carries around 3,600 tons of pet coke. Beside rakes, the despatches from domestic refineries also take place by trucks.

Of the 72 rakes loaded by RIL in December, 62 were loaded from its SEZ refinery and 10 from DTA.

Of the total 62 rakes from SEZ, 30 went to Shree Cement, 11 rakes to J K Lakshmi Cement, 10 rakes to UltraTech, 3  each to Ambuja Cement and Saurashtra Cement, 2 each to J K (Nimhara) and Birla Cement and 1 rake to a plant in West Bengal (Budge Budge).

In November, of the total 68 rakes from RIL's SEZ, 25 rakes had gone to Shree Cement, 9 rakes to J K Lakshmi Cement, 9  rakes to Aditya Cement, 7 rakes to Vikram Cement, 5  rakes to UltraTech (Wadi), 3 rakes to Saurashtra Cement, 3 rakes to Tata Chemicals, 2 rakes to UltraTech (Rajasthan), and 1 rake each to UltraTech (Nagda), Hasimara (probably for Bhutan), UltraTech (Bhiwani), J K Cement (Nimhara) and Lafarge Cement.

Of the 10 rakes loaded from RIL's DTA siding in December, 6 went to Binani Cement, 3 to Prism Cement and 1 to UltraTech.

In November, of the 9 rakes loaded from RIL's DTA siding, 7 had gone to Binani Cement and 1 each to UltraTech (Raipur) and Birla Cement (Chittor).

A total of 13 rakes were despatched from Essar Oil refinery of which 11 went to UltraTech and 1 each to Vaikat (Bharati Cement) and UltraTech (Grasim) Nagda.
In November, of the 13 rakes despatched by Essar, 3 had gone to UltraTech (Raipur-Bhatapara), 3 to Managalam Cement, 3 to Aditya Cement, 2 to Ambuja Cement (Rajasthan) and 1 each to Holcim (ACC) (Lakheri) and Kurkunta (Vaikat) of Karnatak.

Bharat Oman Refinery Ltd (BORL), a joint venture of BPCL and Oman Refinery, had despatched a total of 9 rakes in December of which 3 had gone to Heidelberg Cement, 2 each to Prism Cement and Maihar Cement and 1 each to Jaypee and Century Cement.

In November, of the 9 rakes loaded from BORL's Bina refinery, 2 had gone to Heidelberg, 2 to Century cement, 1 each to Maihar Cement, Prism Cement, Holcim (Bargarh of IDCOL), Birla Cement (Satna) and Jay Pee (Panari-Dala).

A total of 5 rakes were despatched from HPCL's Bhatinda refinery in December of which 3 had gone to Ambuja Cement (Himachal) and 2 to ACC (Himachal).

In November, of the total 6 rakes loaded from HPCL's Bhatinda refinery, 4 had gone to Ambuja (Himachal) and 2 to ACC (Gagal).

There was a sharp fall in loading of rakes from newly installed facility at Koyali of IOCL in December as only 1 rake was despatched during the month compared to 3 rakes in November when it had commenced rake loading of pet coke from the facility.

The lone rake from Koyali in December had gone to Chettinad cement.

In November, from its Koyali refinery IOCL had despatched a total of 3 rakes - one each to Birla Cement (Chittore), Vikram Cement and Vasavadatta Cement (Wadi).
