Pet coke despatches by refineries up in February

March 12: Loading of petroleum coke (fuel grade) by major Indian refineries in February 2014 stood at 109 rakes compared to 100 in December 2013, according to information available with ICMW.

The detailed despatch figures for January 2014 were not available.

Almost unchanged despatches were reported in February 2014 compared to December despite a small maintenance shutdown taken by Reliance Industries Ltd that affected its production by around 10%.

The rise in despatches in February, compared to December 2013, was noticed mainly because of increased despatches by Essar Oil.

Following table gives detailed monthly loading of pet coke from various Indian refineries between April 2013 and February 2014 (in number of rakes of 3550 tons):

One rake usually carries around 3,550 tons of pet coke. Beside rakes, despatches from domestic refineries also take place via trucks.

Of the total 65 rakes loaded from RIL’s SEZ in February 2014, a total of 33 went to Shree Cement, 9 each to J K Lakshmi Cement and UltraTech, 3 each to Prism, Tata Chemicals, Saurashtra Cement and Holcim Cement, while names of the recipients of 2 rakes could not be ascertained immediately though it is estimated that one rake each went to J K Cement and Grasim/UltraTech (Bhiwani).

In December 2013,  of the total 62 rakes despatched from RIL’s SEZ, 30 had gone to Shree Cement, 11 to J K Lakshmi Cement, 10 to UltraTech, 3 each to Ambuja Cement and Saurashtra Cement, 2 each to J K (Nimhara) and Birla Cement and 1 rake to a plant in West Bengal (Budge Budge).

Of the 7 rakes loaded from RIL’s DTA siding in February, Binani Cement had received 4 and Ultratech Cement, 3 rakes.

In December 2013, of the 10 rakes loaded from RIL’s DTA siding, 6 had gone to Binani Cement, 3 to Prism Cement and 1 to UltraTech.

Of the 27 rakes despatched from Essar Oil refinery in February, 7 rakes went to UltraTech, 4 each to Mangalam Cement and Holcim, 3 rakes each to Heidelberg and Prism Cement, 2 each to Maihar Cement and JK Cement (Karnataka) and 1 each to Jaiprakash Cement and Hindustan Electrographite.

In December 2013, of the total 13 rakes that were despatched from Essar Oil’s refinery,  11 had gone to UltraTech and 1 each to Vaikat (Bharati Cement) and UltraTech (Grasim) Nagda.

Bharat Oman Refinery Ltd (BORL), a joint venture of BPCL and Oman Refinery, had despatched a total of 5 rakes in February 2014 with 1 rake each going to Prism Cement, Jaiprakash Cement, Heidelberg, Maihar Cement and Century Cement.

The despatches from BORL’s Bina refinery in December 2013 stood at 9 rakes of which 3 had gone to Heidelberg Cement, 2 each to Prism Cement and Maihar Cement and 1 each to Jaypee and Century Cement.

A total of 4 rakes were despatched from HPCL’s Bhatinda refinery in February 2014 with 1 rake going to Jaiprakash Cement and 3 rakes to Holcim.

In December 2013, a total of 5 rakes were despatched from HPCL’s Bhatinda refinery of which 3 had gone to Ambuja Cement (Himachal) and 2 to ACC (Himachal).

Only one rake was despatched from IOCL’s Koyali (Baroda) refinery in February 2014 that went to UltraTech.

Loading in rakes was started at Koyali in November 2013 when 3 rakes of pet coke were despatched, but only 1 rake was despatched in December 2013.
