Pet coke imports through the port of Kolkata edged down 6.64% to 33,650 tons in April 2016 against 36,043 tons seen in March 2016, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
Imports of pet coke in the month spurted more than 228% year-on-year against 10,254 tons reported in the same month last fiscal (2015-16).
Total imports of the material in fiscal 2015-16 were at 178,833 tons.
Pet coke imports have been swinging wildly through this port. It may be recalled that in May last calendar, these had improved to 46,697 tons but plunged to an abysmal 25 tons in January 2016.

April 2016 saw 16,500 tons arriving from Malaysia at a unit price of Rs 7,021 ($104), while 17,000 tons came in from Saudi Arabia at a range of Rs 2,665 – 2,893 ($40-43) per ton and the balance 150 tons from China at a price band of Rs 29,571 – Rs 49,068 ($442-734) per ton.
In March 2016, a volume of 24,000 tons arrived from Saudi Arabia at a price range of Rs 2,759 – 3,826 ($41-55) per ton, 170 tons from China at a unit price of Rs 51,505 ($757), and the balance 11,873 tons from the US at a price range of Rs 6,185 – Rs 6,399 ($92-95)/ton.
