Pet coke imports through Vizag Port went up 56.42% month-on-month to 225,161 tons in January 2016 against a volume of 143,948 tons seen in the preceding month of December 2015, according to provisional information available with ICMW.
With the addition of the January figures, total pet coke imports for the first 10 months of the current fiscal (2015-16) stood at 1,196,703 tons against 690,020 tons reported in the same period of the previous fiscal, rising 73.43% in this period year-on-year.
In January 2015, imports of the material were at a much lower 161,490 tons.
Total imports of the material in financial year 2014-15 were at 803,601 tons.

January 2016 saw a mere 170 tons arriving from China in a price band of Rs 23,092 – 34,226 ($344-507) per ton, 148,717 tons from the US at a price band of Rs 3,458 – 17,017 ($51-250) per ton, 54,998 tons from Saudi Arabia at a unit price of Rs 2,708 ($40) and 21,276 tons from Indonesia at a unit price of Rs 12,391 ($181).
December 2015 saw 25,571 tons arriving from China in a price band of Rs 6,462 – 23,109 ($96 -344) per ton, 80,030 tons from the US at a price band of Rs 3,909 – 5,231 ($58-78) per ton and the balance 32,960 tons from Kuwait at a unit price of Rs 13,804 ($205).
