February 13: Poland, a major player in mining technology and equipment, is keen to tap the Indian mining market and offer its technological expertise for developing India's underground mining segment, Polish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Katarzyna Kacperczyk said on February 13.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 5th Asian Mining Congress (AMC) in Kolkata, the minister described India as "an economic giant in the making" and said his country was keen to be a partner in its growth, especially in the mining and mineral sectors.

"Coal mining is part of our national identity. Poland can offer modern technology for India's mining sector and especially for underground mining. We want to build a long term relationship in this respect," Prof PiotrK Lodkowski, Polish Ambassador to India, said.

Poland is the partner country in the 5th International Mining, Exploration, Mineral Processing Technology, Metals & Machinery Exhibition (IME) which is being held along with AMC. The country has brought a 20-member delegation for the said events.
