Portal for small sector coal consumers unveiled
17 Mar 2016
The medium and small scale industries whose requirement of coal is less than 4,200 tons per annum and are required to take coal through agencies nominated by state governments, will now have access to an improved system for online monitoring of their order positions.
The system, called “Coal Allocation and Monitoring System (CAMS)”, was launched by Coal Minister Piyush Goyal in Delhi on March 17.
The new system is expected to help the small consumers who quite often are not able to place their requirement with the state nominated agencies and thereafter are unable to track the status of delivery, official sources said.
Under the New Coal Distribution Policy (NCDP) 2007, the scope of coverage through state nominated agencies was increased from 500 tons per annum to 4,200 tons per annum.
An aggregate of 8 million tons of coal is earmarked per annum for distribution to medium and small scale industries and the earmarked quantity is divided amongst various states, depending on past trends.
