Power index up 14.49 pts, stays strong on F&O expiry

The power index remained green for the second consecutive day. Experts predicted that power stocks would remain strong till the futures and options (F&O) expiry. On March 31, the F&O contracts expired. Most of the power stocks performed well in March 2016.    

In the first two days of the week (March 28 and 29), the overall sentiment was negative and power stocks were also marginally down. However, when, from March 30, the Sensex rallied over 400 points, the power index increased significantly too.

The S&P BSE Power index increased 14.49 points (0.82%) to close at 1,753.73 on March 31 from the previous closing of 1,760.63. The highs and lows on March 30 were 1,781.76 and 1,760.63 respectively.

On March 31, global markets such as CAC DAX and FTSE all were trading in the green zone. The Sensex also followed the same trend.

The Sensex increased 3.28 points (0.01%) to close at 25,341.86.

On March 31, most of the stocks on the S&P BSE Power closed in the green. The maximum gain was registered by Adani Power, with the stock increasing 6.45% to close at Rs 34.65. The maximum loss was registered by BHEL, with the stock decreasing 0.96% to close at Rs 113.75.
