Power ministry wants mandatory bidding for renewables

November 27: In a bid to give a further boost to the development of renewable energy in India, the Union Ministry of Power (MoP) has proposed that long-term procurement of power by the distribution licensee should be done only through the competitive bidding process (CBP) and power purchase agreements (PPAs).

This change is part of the proposals put forward by the ministry for amendments in the power tariff policy. The proposals are currently being circulated among various stakeholders for comments by December 6.
