Production from captive mines down 9.35% m-o-m in July
29 Aug 2013
August 29: Production from captive blocks has again registered a negative trend in July for the second consecutive month by falling 9.35% after having fallen 6% in June, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
July production from the captive mines stood at 3.983 million tons (mt) compared to 4.394 mt in June. It, however, registered an almost flat growth of 1.84% from the corresponding period of last year (3.911 mt in July 2012) as well, the data revealed.
During July 2013, the target for production from captive coal blocks was 5.421 mt.
During the first four months (April-July) of 2013-14, total coal production from captive coal blocks stood at 16.24 mt compared to 18.31 mt produced during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
The provisional data also revealed that production from the captive coal blocks of India remained much lower so far than the target set for 2012-13.
Inability to start production from some of the captive coal blocks as per plan was attributed to the main reason behind the lower-than-targeted production in 2012-13.
