Qld to fast-track coal permits

15 Oct 2013

Approval time for exploration permits for coal and mineral mining could be halved in Queensland under new rules, according to Fairfax Media.

"For example, the more streamlined process means exploration permits subject to native title can be decided in less than 12 months, while permits not subject to native title can be determined in six months or sooner," Queensland Natural Resources and Mines Minister Andrew Cripp told the Queensland's NewsMail.

"This is a significant reduction on the average 22 months it currently takes for an exploration permit application to be processed to the stage where it can be granted or rejected."

In an attempt to spur growth in the industry, the Newman government will also allow general exploration permits to be ruled upon in 90 days while, the newspaper reports.
