RIL first 2 gasifiers may be commissioned by Jun

The first two gasifiers from Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) are likely to be commissioned by June this year and this move is likely to take as much as 200,000 tons of pet coke per month out of the domestic market, industry sources said.
The gasifiers will come to operation in stages even as there might be some delay in complete synchronisation but, as of now, the plan is to start the operations by June 2016, they said.
The company will require about 100,000 tons per month of pet coke in each of the gasifiers and it has already started accumulating pet coke from its existing production to meet such requirements, sources said.
According to information available with ICMW, accumulation of pet coke was started by RIL way back in November 2015.
ICMW had earlier reported that despite using its own pet coke in the gasifier, the number of which will be increased gradually in next three-four quarters, there will not be shortage of the material in the country as the company will import pet coke for supplying to its existing customers.
“The company has already brought in a few vessels of imported pet coke for supply to its existing customers and is believed to be negotiating fresh deals to ensure that enough supply is maintained in the market even after the gasifiers are in place,” a source said.
Meanwhile, ICMW learnt that the gasifiers of RIL are so designed that even steam coal can be used for the purpose.
However, considering the existing low price of pet coke in international markets, the company may not consider using steam coal in gasifiers and will prefer using its own raw material.
