Railways’ December coal handling up 4.68%

Indian Railways (IR) transported 48.76 million tons (mt) of coal in December 2015, up 4.68% from 46.58 mt handled in November 2015, according to information available with ICMW.

 

Similarly, revenue earnings of Railways from transportation of coal rose marginally 0.91% to Rs 4,373.49 crore in December 2015 from to Rs 4,334 crore in November 2015, mainly due to slightly higher transportation of the fossil fuel to thermal power plants.

 

However, compared to last year, transportation of coal in December 2015 was marginally down 0.27% from 48.89 mt in December 2014. Revenues from coal transportation were also down 4.82% to Rs 4,373.49 crore in December 2015 compared to Rs 4,594.93 crore in the same month last year.

 

On the other hand, railways’ revenue earnings from commodity-wise freight traffic of Rs 9,442.40 crore in December 2015 were up 6.05% compared to Rs 8,903.8 crore earned in November 2015.

 

Overall, Railways’ revenue earnings from commodity-wise freight traffic were down 3.40% year-on-year in December 2015 to Rs 9,442.40 crore, compared to Rs 9,774.56 crore earned in December 2014.

 

Similarly revenues from transportation of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic use in Decmber 2015 rose to 591.43 crore from Rs 549.3 crore in November, up 7.67%. Likewise, the quantity of iron ore transported was up by 7.31% to 9.54 mt in December 2015 compared to 8.89 mt in November 2015. 

 

Revenues from transportation from pig iron and finished steel from steel plants and other points were at Rs 571.87 crore (3.37 mt) in December 2015 compared Rs 529.11 crore (3.07 mt) in November 2015.

 

Revenues from transportation of cement in December 2015 stood at 755.24 crore (8.7 mt) compared to 645.24 crore (7.34 mt) in November 2015, while that from food grains transportation were up to Rs 744.33 crore (4.17 mt) in December 2015 from Rs 620.02 crore (3.45 mt) in November 2015.

 

Railways’ revenues from transportation of fertilisers in December 2015 were up to Rs 614.61 crore (4.38 mt) from Rs 582.73 crore (4.24 mt) in November 2015.

 

Revenues from transportation of petroleum oil and lubricants (POL) stood at Rs 526.65 crore (3.78 mt) in December 2015, compared to Rs 505.2 crore (3.56 mt) in November 2015.

 

Similarly, revenues from container services were higher at Rs 464.59 crore (4.06 mt) in December 2015 compared to Rs 413.08 crore (3.45 mt) in November 2015 and from transportation of other goods at Rs 645.65 crore (6.25 mt) in November 2015 compared to Rs 571.48 crore (5.52 mt) in November 2015.
