Railways’ February coal handling down 10% m-o-m

Indian Railways (IR) transported 44.18 million tons (mt) of coal in February 2016, down 9.84% from 49 mt of coal handled in January 2016, according to information available with ICMW.

 

Similarly, revenue earnings of Railways from transportation of coal were down by 9.66% to Rs 3,915.07 crore in February 2016 from Rs 4,333.63 crore in January 2016, mainly due to slightly lower transportation of the fossil fuel to thermal power plants.

 

Even compared to last year, transportation of coal in February 2016 was down by 2.99% from 45.54 mt in February 2015. Also, revenues from coal transportation were down 9.97% to Rs 3,915.07 crore in February 2016 compared to Rs 4,348.47 crore in the same month last year.

 

Likewise, railways’ revenue earnings from commodity-wise freight traffic of Rs 8,805.18 crore in February 2016 were down 9.43% compared to Rs 9,721.78 crore earned in January 2016.

 

Overall, Railways’ revenue earnings from commodity-wise freight traffic were down 3.53% year-on-year in February 2016 to Rs 8,805.18 crore, compared to Rs 9,127.09 crore earned in February 2015.

 

Similarly revenues from transportation of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic use in February 2016 were down down 11.87% to Rs 553.74 crore from Rs 628.29 crore in January 2016. Likewise, the quantity of iron ore transported was down by 10.70% to 9.35 mt in February 2016 compared to 10.47 mt in January 2016.

 

Revenues from transportation from pig iron and finished steel from steel plants and other points were at Rs 616.65 crore (3.78 mt) in February 2016 compared to Rs 663.78 crore (3.8 mt) in January 2016.

 

Revenues from transportation of cement in February 2016 stood at 763.13 crore (8.55 mt) compared to 825.25 crore (9.5 mt) in January 2016, while that from foodgrains transportation were down to Rs 715.58 crore (4.2 mt) in February 2016 from Rs 818.91 crore (4.73 mt) in January 2016.

 

Railways’ revenues from transportation of fertilisers in February 2016 were down to Rs 461.15 crore (3.5 mt) from Rs 632.30 crore (4.53 mt) in January 2016.

 

Revenues from transportation of petroleum oil and lubricants (POL) stood at Rs 483.54 crore (3.52 mt) in February 2016, compared to Rs 518.68 crore (3.77 mt) in January 2016

 

Similarly, revenues from container services were higher at Rs 432.77 crore (3.57 mt) in February 2016 compared to Rs 467.17 crore (3.92 mt) in January 2016 and from transportation of other goods at Rs 709.4 crore (6.76 mt) in February 2016 compared to Rs 679.92 crore (6.70 mt) in January 2016.
