Railways’ freight earnings up 11.38% in Apr-Oct

November 18: Indian Railways generated Rs 57,012.74 crore of revenue earnings from commodity-wise freight traffic during April-October, 2014 as compared to Rs 51,189.29 crore reported during the corresponding period of last year, registering an increase of 11.38%.

Railways carried 621.66 million tons of commodity-wise freight traffic during April-October, 2014 as compared to 593.27 million tons during the corresponding period of last year, registering an increase of 4.79%.

During October 2014, Railways generated Rs 8,950.69 crore as compared to Rs 7,731.51 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 15.77%.

Out of which, Rs 4,315 crore came from transportation of 46.20 million tons of coal, followed by Rs 598.62 crore from 8.38 million tons of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic users, Rs 703.94 crore from 8.24 million tons of cement,

Another Rs 734.05 crore came from transportation of 4.35 million tons of foodgrains, Rs 480.52 crore from transportation of 3.48 million tons of petroleum oil and lubricant (POL), Rs 546.52 crore from 3.21 million tons of pig iron and finished steel from steel plants and other points, Rs 510.82 crore from 4.29 million tons of fertilisers, Rs 166.76 crore from 1.58 million tons of raw material for steel plants except iron ore, Rs 384.90 crore from 4.12 million tons by container service and Rs 509.56 crore from 5.37 million tons of goods.
