Railways’ revenues from coal down 2.88% in June m-o-m

Indian Railways transported 42.33 million tons (mt) of coal in June 2013, down 1.46% from 42.96 mt in May 2013.
Revenues earned from coal transportation in June 2013 were at Rs 3,360.90 crore, down 2.88% from 3,460.63 crore in May 2013.
The Railways carried 9.82 mt of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic users against 10.54 mt carried in May 2013, a drop of 6.83%.
Revenues from transportation of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic users in June 2013 were at Rs 668.91 crore, against Rs 722.68 crore in May 2013, down 7.44%.
The Railways generated Rs 22,795.55 crore of revenue earnings from commodity-wise freight traffic during April 1-June 30, 2013 compared to Rs 21,027.96 crore during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 8.41%.
It carried 256.79 mt of commodity-wise freight traffic during April-June, 2013 compared to 244.81 mt carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 4.89 per cent.
Total earnings from commodity-wise freight traffic during the month of June 2013 were at Rs 7,471.30 crore, a decrease of 4.93% over Rs 7,859.22 crore registered in May 2013.
Of the total earning during the quarter, Rs 660.35 crore came from transportation of 8.23 mt of cement, Rs 563.70 crore from 4.15 mt of foodgrains, Rs 447.67 crore from 3.60 mt of petroleum oil and lubricant (POL).
It earned Rs 473.48 crore from transportation of 2.96 mt of pig iron and finished steel from steel plants and other points, Rs 378.40 crore from 3.77 mt of fertilisers, Rs 120.01 crore from 1.49 mt of raw material for steel plants except iron ore, Rs 356.28 crore from 3.48 mt by container service and Rs 441.60 crore from 5.12 mt of other goods.
