Railways’ revenues in April-Aug, 2013 up 10.29%

September 10: The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during April 1 to August 31, 2013 were Rs 54,462.79 crore compared to Rs 49,382.94 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 10.29%.
Total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 34,067.51 crore during April 1-August 31, 2012 to Rs 37,085.96 crore during the same period in the current fiscal, registering an increase of 8.86%.
The total passenger revenue earnings during the period under review were Rs 14,758.00 crore compared to Rs 13,005.37 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 13.48%.
Approximate revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 1,560.67 crore during April - August 2013 compared to Rs 1,261.35 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 23.73%.
The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during the period under review were 3,533.86 million compared to 3,566.83 million during the same period last year, showing a decrease of 0.92%. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during April-August, 2013 were 1,883.14 million and 1,650.72 million compared to 1,840.18 million and 1,726.55 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 2.33% and a decrease of 4.40% respectively.
