Rake problem continues at Vizag port
15 Dec 2014
December 15: The situation of shortage in availability of rakes at Vizag port on the east coast of India continues with the port receiving only half of the total requirement of 20 rakes per day, an official said.
“On an average, we need 20 rakes per day, but at present we are getting only 10-11 rakes,” the official said.
“We have been despatching 9,000 tons to 10,000 tons by road for the supply of near-by plants located within a vicinity of nearly 100 kms and we are badly in need of more number of rakes,” the official added.
Meanwhile, notwithstanding the rake shortage, the official expressed confidence that in the current financial year, the port will cross previous years coal handling of 6.9 million tons (mt) as huge numbers of vessels are coming to VPT from Indonesia and South Africa because of the international pricing and government policy.
