Ramaco clears hurdle to develop subbituminous coal mine in Wyoming

Ramaco has cleared its last hurdle for the development of the subbituminous Brook Mine near Sheridan, Wyoming, and plans to start mining coal in the first part of 2017, the company's CEO said Thursday.
"We had one remaining hurdle for completing all our permitting requirements, which was landowner approval," Randall Atkins told S&P Global Platts.
The hurdle was removed when the Wyoming Environmental Quality Council Wednesday voted 6-0 to allow the mine development to move forward despite opposition from an adjacent rancher and another Powder River Basin coal producer.
The Lexington, Kentucky-based producer, which owns 1.1 billion st of recoverable coal reserves on about 14,500 acres in the area, plans to develop the mine slowly with expectations for only about 500,000 st the first year.
