April 28: There seemed to be renewed interest in off-spec South African steam coal of the 5,500 Kcal/kg NAR variety on April 25 even as prices of the standard material softened a bit, industry sources said.
In fact, off-spec South African steam coal prices have firmed up by more than $5 per ton since the April 14, 2014 level of $65.10 per ton, prompted by higher demand and limited availability, they said.
Now-a-days, Indian companies are looking to bid for off-spec material and this was one of the reasons for the firmness, they added.
