Revised 3rd party sampling mechanism on anvil: Minister

July 17: A revised mechanism for third-party sampling is being put in place by Coal India Ltd (CIL) to make the system more transparent and acceptable to consumers, said Piyush Goyal, Minister of state for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy (Independent Charge), according to an official release.
According to the official statement, participation of consumer representatives in joint sampling, third party sampling and analysis of coal is one of the corrective measures taken by (CIL) and its subsidiaries are taking a few corrective measures to ensure supply of quality coal to thermal power plants.
Other measures adopted by the miner to improve coal quality are thus:
* To include selective mining where bands of thickness is more than 1 meter,
* Appropriate positioning of overburden and coal benches to avoid mixture,
* Scrapping and cleaning of coal benches before blasting,
* Installation of metal detectors and magnetic separators over running conveyors before coal loading, providing crushing arrangement to supply of sized coal etc.
