Seaborne coal prices remained soft in the international markets amid lack of any major deal and buying interest.
South African coal prices dropped for the second day in a row even as Australian and Indonesian prices remained unchanged.
There were reports that Colombian miner Cerrejon was making a final attempt to resolve its dispute with the unions and this reassured adequacy of supply from that region.
In the freight market, the oversupply situation is expected to persist even though the current low rates are said to be eating into the margins of the shippers, sources said.
