December 10: Spot prices of South African and Australian steam coal firmed up sharply on December 9 in anticipation of disturbances in supplies from Colombia as one of its leading miners has not been able to comply with government regulations on introducing a direct loading facility, industry sources said.
While SA coal prices (6,000 Kcal/kg NAR) firmed up $0.80 per ton, Australian coal (6,300 Kcal/kg GAR) firmed up by $1.00 per ton compared with December 6 levels, they said.
While there was some recovery ($0.50 per ton) in coking coal prices, there was practically no change in Indonesian prices, they added.
