November 5: The spot prices of South African and Australian steam coal softened slightly on November 4 even as Indonesian material remained largely unchanged amidst continued lack of enquiries, industry sources said.
"Indian companies continued to remain off the market whereas there is not much enquiry from China at present," they added.
"Current offer prices are still higher and as there are expectations that prices would soften further after a spurt witnessed in the previous fortnight, particularly for South African material, buyers are not coming out with firm bids," an official with a leading trader said.
Meanwhile, Marex Spectron, on November 5, made an offer for 50,000 tons of RB1 material for loading in January 2014 at $85.50 per ton FOB, but counter-bids were not available.
Freight rates remained unchanged, but metallurgical coke prices firmed up on lack of availability even as coking coal prices remained largely unchanged.
