Sep 17: The spot coal prices softened in international markets on September 16 amidst reports that China is contemplating a ban on import of high ash content steam coal in coming days, market sources.
Some analyst believe that if China bans import of steam coal with ash content of 20% and above, it might impact the country’s import from Australia.
However, others feel it will not have much impact, but all agree that if China moves ahead with this, there will definitely be some benefit to Indonesia, as ash content in Indonesian coal is generally lower at 10%.
