April 7: Spot prices of South African steam coal firmed up sharply on April 4 in the wake of speculative buying in the forward markets even as actual deals in the spot market remained confined to only a few and that too at much below the quoted levels, industry sources said.
Prices of South African standard steam coal surged by $1.00 per ton on April 4 even as actual deals were not heard at any price above $74.00 per ton, they said.
Similarly, firmness was detected in the South African 5,500 Kcal/kg material on higher offers, but matching bids were not noticed.
