January 27: The spot prices of South African steam coal, which had been falling consistently over the past few weeks, rose marginally on January 26 even as a reversal of trend was witnessed for Australian steam coal prices, market sources said.
The price of Australian steam coal (6300 Kcal/kg GAR) slipped by $2.55 per ton after the reports that the contract price with Japanese utilities may slip to around $70 per ton in 2015-16 from a high of around $77 per ton in the previous year.
