SAIL chairman seeks coking coal blocks to reduce imports

May 16: The new government at the Centre should ease raw material constraints facing the Indian steel sector by allotting coking coal blocks to steel-makers and setting up washeries on a "war footing", SAIL Chairman C S Verma said.
Verma, who is also the chairman of the CII National Committee on steel, said in a statement that the government should ensure appropriate linkages of coal supplies for the steel industry in order to reduce dependence on imported coking coal.
He also called for faster environmental and forest clearances on a single window basis.
The new government should have a cohesive and comprehensive agenda to accelerate growth in the steel sector for a capacity building of 300 million tons per annum by 2025, he further added.
