SAIL gets MoEF nod for Begunia coal project

February 3: The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) was granted environment clearance (EC) from the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) for the Begunia underground coalmine project of 0.33 million tons per annum (mtpa) in West Bengal.
The ministry awarded the EC for these three mines vide a letter issued to the management on January 16, 2015.
The communique said the geological reserves of medium coking coal (steel grade, SI and SII to washery grade II) are 4.95 million tons (mt). The minable reserves are 4.24 mt and the extractable reserves at 2.54 mt.
The total cost of the project would be Rs 99.46 crore and the cost of production will be Rs 1,255 per ton.
