SC to consider plea on Coal India supply quality
06 Oct 2015
The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to examine a plea by a small-scale industry body on an agreement with state-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) for supply of coal.
The Industries Commerce Association moved the apex court seeking its intervention in the agreement small-scale coal purchasers had entered into with CIL, alleging that the agreements were one-sided and tilted in Coal India’s favour.
Lawyer Krishnan Venugopal, representing the association, told the court that the coal purchasers had no mechanism to verify the quality of coal CIL supplied to them. He sought to have a verification process set in place during loading of the coal to be supplied to them.
A bench comprising justices T.S.Thakur and V. Gopala Gowda agreed to hear the case and examine the issue.
