SCCL FY16 output up 14.9%, exceeds target
06 Apr 2016
Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) reported an impressive 14.92% growth in coal production in 2015-16, exceeding its revised target of 60 million tons (mt) set for the year.
According to data released by the company, production during financial year 2015-16 stood at 60.38 mt, up from 52.54 mt produced in 2014-15.
The actual production in 2015-16 was 108% of the original target of 56 mt.
In March 2016, however, production showed a decline of 8.65% to 6.04 mt, compared to 6.59 mt achieved in the same month last year. This was the first decline in a month during the year under review.
The state-run coal miner accounts for about 10% of the total coal production in India.
SCCL had initially set a production target of 56 mt for the current fiscal, but later on revised it upwards to 60 mt, inspired by the consistently high growth performance.
The miner, meanwhile, has also scaled up its 2020 production target from 75 mt to 85 mt, company Chairman-cum-Managing Director N Sridhar recently said.
The following chart provides SCCL’s monthly coal production in FY16 and FY15 (in million tons):
