SE Railway set to surpass freight loading target

South Eastern Railway (SER) has registered 8.17% growth in freight loading during the first 10 months of 2015-16 and is set to surpass its freight loading target of 134 million tons (mt) for the current financial year, an official said.
During the first 10 months of the current financial year, ie, from April to January, SER has loaded 109.77 mt of revenue earning freight as against 101.48 mt of freight loaded during the corresponding period of last year, registering a growth of 8.29 million tons, ie, 8.17%, the official said.
“The freight loading target for the current financial year is 134 million tons and SER is poised to surpass the target,” the official added.
The major components of this excellent loading performance in the first 10 months were 60.51 mt of iron ore, 20.94 mt of coal, 11.96 m of pig iron and finished steel, 7.35 mt of cement, 3.57 mt of merchandised goods, 1.79 mt of petroleum products (POL) etc, the official said.
As a result of this loading performance, South Eastern Railway has generated freight earnings of Rs 8,460.19 crore during April-January of the current financial year which is Rs 695.62 crore more than the corresponding period of last year, registering a growth of 8.96%.
In January 2016, SE Railway loaded 12.07 mt of freight as against 10.52 mt loaded in January 2015, thus registering a growth of 14.73%. Earnings from freight loading in January 2016 has been Rs 937.07 crore, a growth of 10.78% in comparison to the corresponding month of last year.
