SECL denying coal to cement kilns, CPPs: ICPPA
22 Jul 2014
July 22: A large number of cement kilns and captive power plants (CPPs) are being “denied” linkage coal by South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), according to industry sources.
“Cement kilns and CPPs are being forced to shut down due to non-allotment, supply and loading of rakes since June 2014 from the Korba coalfield of SECL and also from the ports,” a spokesperson of the Indian Captive Power Plants Association (ICPPA) told ICMW.
“For the entire month of June, there was no coal allocated to CPPs and the industry. July allocations are also under suspense,” he said. The June quota for CPPs and cement units was 150 rakes, he added.
A cement industry source said that they have sought intervention by the ministries of coal and power, industry and railways to resolve the matter.
