SECL gets MoEF nod for Jampali project in Chhattisgarh

March 17: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), has received the environmental clearance (EC) from the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) for the Jampali opencast mine project, according to information available with ICMW.
The coal block, located in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh, will have peak rated production capacity of 3 million tons per annum (mtpa), while the total capital cost of the project is Rs 47.72 crore.
Earlier, the ministry approved the environmental clearance for the expansion of Kusmunda mine in the Korba district of Chhattisgarh.
The MoEF said it had also approved clearance for 251.646 hectares of forest land, the total forest area involved in mining, on December 18, 2013. However, out of the total mining lease area of 658.10 hectares, 91.914 hectares of forest land, that falls inside the safety zone, is not be acquired.
Total geological reserves in the block are almost 51 million tons (mt) out of which the mineable reserves are 31.30 mt and extractable reserves are at 31.30 mt.
