SER’s Apr-Dec freight loading up 7%, revenue up 9%

South Eastern Railway (SER), on January 15, said its revenue earning freight loading increased by 6.74% during the first nine months of 2015-16, resulting in 8.74% growth in freight earnings.
SER has loaded 9,770 million tons (mt) of revenue earning freight during the first nine months of 2015-16 as against 90.96 mt loaded during the same period of 2014-15, an official release said.
The major components of the loading performance in the first nine months included 53.83 mt of iron ore, 18.86 mt of coal, 10.59 mt of pig iron and finished steel, 6.36 mt of cement, 3.25 mt of merchandised good, 1.60 mt of petroleum products (POL), the release said.
As a result of this loading performance, South Eastern Railway has generated freight earnings of Rs 7,523.12 crore during April- December of the current financial year which is Rs 604.42 crore more than that recorded in the corresponding period of last year, registering a growth of 8.74%.
In December 2015, SER loaded 10.92 mt of freight as against 9.47 mt loaded in December 2014, thus registering a growth of 15.31%. In the iron ore sector, loading increased by 33% over the corresponding month of the previous year.
