20 Jan 2016
South Eastern Railway (SER) has crossed 100 million tons (mt) of freight loading till January 8 of the current financial year (April-March), representing a rise of 7.41% over the same period last year.
“We may see an 8% growth in freight loading this fiscal,” SER’s General Manager Ashish Goel said.
He hoped that despite contraction in demand for wagons, SER could end up improving loading in the next few months.
Freight loading during April-December, 2015 grew 7.1% to 97.70 mt, he said, adding that the target for 2015-16 is 134 mt.
Goel said SER’s freight earnings grew 8.74% to Rs 7,523.12 crore till December 2015.
SER’s service area includes Haldia Port, steel plants in Tata Nagar, Bokaro and Rourkela, 6 cement plants, 11 coal washeries, an aluminum plant at Muri, 34 iron ore loading sidings, 4 power houses and a fertiliser plant at Durgachak.
