SLC (LT) to meet once again in February

31 Jan 2014

January 31: The Standing Linkage Committee (Long Term) for power, sponge iron and cement sectors will meet once again on February 19 to review the status of existing coal linkages and letters of assurance (LoAs) and other related matters, a ministry official said.

The committee had last met on December 20, 2013 and had made a number of observations and recommendations.

One of the important decisions likely to be taken at the next meeting (on February 19) is whether the committee should stop taking applications for new linkages from sponge iron and cement sector companies in view of the negative stocks lying with coal companies.

Earlier, at its meeting in May 2012, the committee had decided to stop taking applications for new linkages from power plants for a period of two years citing similar reasons.

Prior to December 20, 2013, the SLC (LT) on cement and sponge iron was last held in 2007.
