Sept steam coal imports via Paradip spurt 145% m-o-m

October 14: Steam coal imports through the port of Paradip spurted by almost 145% to 1,289,264 tons in September 2014 against 526,612 tons reported in August, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Steam coal imports in September 2013, stood much lower at 163,140 tons.
In the first six months of the current financial year (2014-15), steam coal imports through the port stood at 4,320,763 tons against 3,412,828 tons imported during the same period of 2013-14.
Total steam coal imports in 2013-14 were at 6,907,374 tons

In September, imports comprised 1,044,359 tons from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 2,232 – Rs 16,125 ($36-263) per ton, 124,892 tons from South Africa in a range of Rs 5,214 – Rs 10,725 ($85-175) per ton, 77,000 tons from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 4,945 ($81) and the balance 43,013 tons from the US in a range of Rs 6,382 – Rs 6,555 ($105-107) per ton.
In August, however, 227,597 tons arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 2,491 – Rs 3,349 ($41-55) per ton, 271,369 tons from South Africa in a range of Rs 1,770 – Rs 5,519 ($29-91) per ton while the balance 27,646 tons arrived from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 4,340 ($70).
