September inflation eases to 2.38% m-o-m

October 14: India's wholesale price inflation eased in September 2014 on moderation in fuel costs and lower prices for vegetables and fruits.
The wholesale price index (WPI) stood at 2.38% (provisional) for the month of September, 2014 (over September, 2013) as compared to 3.74% (provisional) for the previous month, said an official release from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Build-up inflation rate in the financial year so far was 2.61% compared to a build-up rate of 6.23% in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The index for the minerals group rose by 0.1 percent to 347.3 (provisional) from 347 (provisional) for the previous month due to higher price of chromite (3%), iron ore and steatite (2% each). However, the price of barytes (21%), sillimanite (9%), copper ore (4%), manganese ore (3%) and zinc concentrate (1%) declined.
The WPI index of June, 2014, stands revised to 185.0 as compared to a provisional 184.6 and the annual rate of inflation, based on the final index, stood at 5.41% as compared to 5.19% respectively, the statement said.
