Set stage on fire with coal dress

If you thought coal was just used to produce energy, then think again. Coal can be wearable too. Here is a fashion designer who has entered the Limca Book of Records for making a dress using coal.
A former student of Kuvempu University, Rakhi Gupta, the designer, says she took 15 days to make the dress, measuring 2’9’’ by using coal pieces and she worked for seven to eight hours a day, to complete her work. It is for the second time the 30-year-old has made it to the Limca Records.
“Last year, I entered Limca records for my biggest wax gown. “I wanted to try something more unique this time and came up with the idea of making a coal dress,” she said.
The orange, peach and pink wax gown was made of 3.2 kg paraffin wax and muslin cotton and was also completed in 15 days.
Rakhi’s objective as a fashion designer, she says, is to decode Indian fashion with her own set of values and vision.
“I want to use unconventional materials effectively and show that they can be utilised too,” the designer explained.
