Sharp fall in gypsum imports via Chennai in November

December 29: Gypsum imports through Chennai Port fell manifold to a mere 2,498 tons in November against 96,305 tons imported in October 2014, as per provisional information available with ICMW.

Imports of the material in November 2013 stood at 1,167 tons.

Imports of gypsum through the port in the first eight months of the current financial year stood at 155,489 tons as against 186,524  tons imported in the same period of previous fiscal (2013-14).

The following table contains the month-wise import figures of gypsum via Chennai Port during 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In November, 1,334 tons arrived from Iran at a price range of Rs 4,355-Rs 7,272 ($70- $116) per ton, 940 tons arrived from Vietnam at a price band of Rs 11,374 - Rs 11,474 ($184-$185) per ton, 150 tons arrived from Thailand at a unit price of Rs 6,017 ($96), 40 tons from Pakistan at a unit price of Rs 10,351 ($167), 20 tons from the US at a unit price of Rs 36,888 ($589), 5 tons arrived from the United Arab Emirates at a price range of Rs 12,504-Rs 34,673- ($202-$560) per ton and the balance 8 tons arrived from Denmark at a unit price of Rs 114,757 ($1,833- $1,854).

In October, 93,860 tons arrived from Oman in a range of Rs 1,479 – Rs 1,532 ($24-25), 1,015 tons from Vietnam in a range of Rs 11,181 – Rs 11,481 ($181-185) per ton, 886 tons from Iran in a range of Rs 4,222 – Rs 4,529 ($68-73) per ton, 354 tons from Thailand in a range of Rs 6,278 – Rs 12,927 ($101-204), 103 tons from Saudi Arabia at a unit price of Rs 8,822 ($142) per ton, amongst others.
