Sharp hike in India’s imported coal stocks w-o-w

November 10: India's imported coal stocks at nine ports – eight major and one private – increased sharply by 11.50% to 8.214 million tons as on November 7, against a volume of 7.367 mt in the previous week, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The overall inventories of imported coal at Indian ports during the week ended November 7 rose sharply on the back of increased coal stockpiles at four major ports, Vizag, Paradip, Kolkata and New Mangalore on a week-on-week basis.

Coal stocks at other major ports and one private port, Mundra, remained at their previous levels. 

During the week ended November 7, imported coal stocks at the port of Paradip recorded a sharp increase to 2.674 mt against a volume of 2.574 mt as on October 31.

Of the total coal stocks at the port recorded during the week, steam coal’s share was at 1.612 mt and coking coal stood at 1.062 mt against a volume of 1.484 mt and 1.09 mt respectively as on October 31.

Imported coal stocks at Mundra Port remained at the same level as that of the previous week. As on October 31, imported coal stocks at the port stood at 0.741 mt

Inventories of imported coal at the port of Kolkata on November 7 increased slightly to 0.566 mt against 0.560 mt recorded in the previous week. On November 7, the port’s steam coal stocks stood at 0.336, up from 0.307 mt as on October 31 while coking coal stocks at the port depleted slightly to 0.230 mt as on November 7 from 0.253 mt on October 31.

The coal stocks position at Vizag Port increased sharply to 1.2 mt as on November 7, up from 0.80 mt recorded as on October 31. As on November 7, the port’s steam coal stocks were at 0.80 mt and coking coal stocks at 0.4 mt, up from 0.60 mt and 0.20 mt respectively as on October 31.
