Sharp rise in pet coke despatches by refineries in March

08 Apr 2014

April 8: Loading of petroleum coke (fuel grade) via rakes by major Indian refineries in March 2014, the last month of 2013-14, stood at 131 rakes, up 20% against 109 in February, according to information available with ICMW.

The rise in March despatches was reported mainly from the SEZ refinery of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), but others, including Essar Oil, notched up a better performance.

Despatches generally go up in the last month of any financial year as refineries rush to load material to show an improved performance during the year, industry sources said.

Earlier, it was expected that despatches by RIL would be lower in March due to a planned maintenance shutdown. However, that did not happen despite the company opting for shut-down at one of its refineries from March 20, industry sources said.

Following is detailed monthly loading of pet coke from various Indian refineries from April 2013-March 2014 (in number of rakes for 3,550 tons):
