Shree Cement brings in US steam coal

October 24: Shree Cement Ltd, which had in 2012 bought around 500,000 tons of high sulphur and high calorific value US steam coal, has recently received delivery of 125,000 tons of the same material at Navlakhi port, industry sources said.

"The company has contracted to procure 250,000 tons of US steam coal with sulphur content of 2.50% to 3.25% and calorific value of 6,800 Kcal/kg NAR at around $79.00 per ton FOB," the sources added.

While one parcel of 125,000 tons had arrived at Navlakhi port on September 27 and was discharged on October 7, another cargo of the same parcel size is expected to arrive on October 25 at Mundra port, the source said.

The cement maker plans to procure around 500,000 tons of US steam coal in 2014, but it is yet to firm up the deal.

"The finalisation of deal for 2014 will depend on the usage results of the cargo that will arrive till October," the source said.

Shree Cement had last brought US steam coal in January 2013, according to information available with ICMW.
